WORK IN PROGRESS

“Understanding FASD has allowed me to navigate my life in a what that my hopes and dreams can be realised, I can now shift the shame and sadness of my perceived shortcomings and redefine them with a new appreciation of what I have overcome, and what I have managed to achieve despite them. I now have hope for my future in a way that never existed before.”
As an advocate living with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), I share my lived expertise in an effort to arm individuals, families, caregivers, and health professionals with information to foster understanding and enable the creation of effective interventions and support. Awareness and action is key, to not only slow the rate of children being born affected by prenatal alcohol but to also accurately assess and diagnose these children, giving them the best chance for happiness & success.
I firmly believe we can drive prevention by supporting and empowering women in our communities with accurate information about the many risks and consequences associated with prenatal alcohol exposure, so they are able to make informed choices for themselves and their families. Elevating awareness, educating communities and providing access to informed healthcare and supportive services are vital steps in reducing stigma, minimising harm and ensuring better outcomes; I am committed to using my voice to challenge societal stigma, call out harmful alcohol marketing practices, engage with decision makers and contribute to professional development and training for healthcare professionals and educators..
I work and collaborate closely with our National Organisations, stakeholders and government towards inclusive and open dialogue with decision makers to address the underlying causes of FASD and emphasise the importance and benefits of minimising the harm through effective health promotion, activism, story-telling, resource development, training, programs, services and regulation.
I use what I have learned since my diagnosis to fight for the recognition and inclusion of those of us living with the difficulties of FASD and to ensure that the voices and perspectives of those individuals are central in shaping the decisions that affect their lives.
I’m a fierce champion for the recognition, rights and well-being of all individuals impacted by FASD and (with the right support) their ability to harness their strengths and contribute meaningfully. I believe it's possible to create a world in which the consequences of prenatal alcohol exposure is widely understood, effectively prevented, and robustly supported, ultimately creating a brighter future for all.
